CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE
Are you happy with the way our club is run, or would you like to see improvements
that would benefit the majority or some of our players?
Most bowlers often voice opinions amongst themselves, but do not convey their thoughts
to the club's committees. If you are one of these bowlers, let us hear what you have
to say.
It is a sad fact that most clubs, whether sporting or leisure, are suffering from falling
membership. Whether this is due to costs, TV addiction, the internet or general apathy is
debateable, but it does create financial problems for the clubs concerned, and for our club
it means that friendly matches are not being well supported, in that we often struggle to
put out the required number of rinks due to insufficient players putting forward their
names for selection.
Do we counter this problem by reducing the number of games played with other clubs,
thereby reducing the revenue coming into the club, which ultimately could increase either
our yearly subscriptions or rink fees or both?
The answers lie in your hands, and we would be pleased to hear your point of view and any
suggestions, whether controversial, constructive or outrageous.
We have a fine club which offers bowling and coaching for us all, whether it's purely for
social and roll-ups, or of a more competitive nature. It's a healthy and socially acceptable
pastime, which opens the doors to many friendships, both on and off the greens.
As a club we can only take out of it what is put into it: therefore the more we all put into
it, surely can only make it better for everyone concerned.
